Ans. Between Ranji and the other boy , it is the other boy who is trying to start a quarrel. It was he who first assumed a violent attitude , showing Ranji the palm of his hand.

(i) What made him say that ?

Ans. The first round of the fight ended in a draw. No boy was ready to give in. This made the other say this statement.

(ii) Did the fight continue ? If not, why not ?

Ans. No, the fight did not continue. The next day they had become friends.

Ans. Ranji finds it difficult to explain at home, the cuts and bruises that showed on his face, legs and arms.

Ans. Ranji was the better swimmer. He could have swum the length of the pool a dozen times without tiring.

Ans. Ranji dived straight into the water, cutting through it like a knife, he appeared on the other side of the pool. This surprises the warrior.

Qus 6. Now that they are at the pool, why don’t they continue the fight ?

Ans. Now they have become friends. Ranji offers to teach Suraj the skills of swimming. So they don’t continue the fight.

Ans. No, fighting is not only way of resolving differences of opinion. These differences can be better resolved  through friendly talks. If we are broad-minded enough to respect others opinion then there will not be any fight.

Qus 2. Have you ever been in a serious fight only to realize later that it was unnecessary and futile? Share you experience/views with others frankly and honestly.

Ans. Yes, last year I had a serious fight with my friend, Dishu. My notebook was misplaced. I thought Dishu had stolen it. I made enquiry from Dishu. He was furious. I too got furious. I gave a hard blow on Dishu’s nose. A bleeding start from his nose. It was a cool day. Soon he became unconscious. I was feeling guilty. My sense of guilt was ever greater when I found the book in my bag. I

Qus 3. Why do some of us find it necessary to prove that we are better than others? Will you be amused or annoyed to read the following sign at the back of the car in front of you?

Ans.  Some people feel a sense of inferiority complex. They are always eager to prove their worth. So they put this type of signs on their cars. I will be amused to read this sign.
