Qus.1 The old farmer is a kind person. What evidence of his kindness do you find in the first two paragraphs.

Ans. He loved his dog as though it were a baby. He fed the dog with his own hands. He was kind to everything that had life.

Qus.2 What did the dog do to lead the farmer to the hidden gold?

Ans.The dog came running and put his paws against the farmer’s legs. He made indications to the farmer to follow him. The farmer followed him to the place where gold was hidden.

Qus.3 (i) How did the spirit of the dog help the farmer first ?

(ii) How did it help him next ?

Ans. (i) The spirit of the dog appeared to him in a dream and asked him to cut down the pine tree over his grave to make mortar and mill. This mortar and mill gave him a heap of gold.

(ii) The spirit of the dog appeared to his master in a dream. It asked him to take the ashes of the mill and sprinkle them on the withered trees to make them bloom. This gave a big reward to him.

Qus.4 Why did the daimio reward the farmer but punish his neighbour for same act ?

Ans. The withered cherry tree sprouted into blossoms when the farmer sprinkled a pinch of ashes over it. So the daimio gave him a big reward. But the daimio punished the neighbour for throwing dust over him.

Qus.1  Do you remember an anecdote or a story about a greedy or jealous person and the unhappy result of his/her action? Narrate the story to others in your class.

 Here is one for you to read.

Seeing an old man planting a fig tree, the king asked why he was doing this. The man replied that he might live to eat the fruit, and, even if he did not, his son would enjoy the figs.

“Well,” said the king, “if you do live to eat the fruit of this tree, please let me know.” The man promised to do so, and sure enough, before too long, the tree grew and bore fruit. Packing some fine figs in a basket, the old man set out for the palace to meet the king. The king accepted the gift and gave orders that the old man’s basket be filled with gold. Now, next door to the old man, there lived a greedy old man jealous of his neighbour’s good fortune. He also packed some figs in a basket and took them to the palace in the hope of getting gold. The king, on learning the man’s motive, ordered him to stand in the compound and had him pelted with figs. The old man returned home and told his wife the sad story. She consoled him by saying, “You should be thankful that our neighbour did not grow coconuts.”

Ans. Chanderhasa – The Lucky Prince

Last month , I read a story “ Chanderhasa ‘ – The Lucky Prince , written by Manoj Das . It is a very touching story . The royal couple was murdered by the wicked minister . One faithful governess managed to escape with the Little Prince.   When the minister came to know about the boy he send some hired murderers to kill the boy but somehow they could not kill  him. Then he came in the service of the minister. The minister recognized him as the prince Chanderhasa. He sent the Prince to his son, who was the governor of other state with a letter. Give Him Vish ‘. When the Chanderhasa reached there  , me fell asleep in a garden. By chance the minister’s daughter whose name was ‘ Vishya ‘ reached there. She took the letter to read it , she was shocked. She change the word ‘ Vish ‘ into Vishya ‘. When the governor got the  letter he married Vishya  to Chanderhasa.  When the minister came to know it, he was in trouble.  Next he thought of killing the Prince in some other way.  He asked Chanderhasa to go to the example that night to seek blessing of God.  He had already deputed killers in the temple.  By chance the minister’s son went to the temple in place of Chanderhasa.  They killed him .  The minister could not near the burden of his sins.  He died a few days later.  Thus Chanderhasa became the ruler.  In this story.  liked Vishya’s role most .  We should also be noble to do good deeds.
